Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong? It Could Be Medical Malpractice

Plenty of stars, both young and old, attempt to secure wrinkle-free perfection and plumpness with a tug or a pull or a tweak or an implant, but the results aren’t always natural-looking. So, the question is: Did the celeb ask for that kind of look, or is their surgeon on the hook for medical malpractice? If you’ve undergone plastic surgery with disastrous results, did your doctor fail to provide the expected standard of care?

Cosmetic Surgery Problems: Visible and Invisible

The latest celeb news is the size of Madonna’s rear end. Fans have been left wondering whether the singer’s recently overinflated derriere is the result of a botched bit of plastic surgery. The icon has only responded to the matter by saying, “Desperately seeking on ones approval…and entitled to free agency over my body like everyone else!”

You don’t have to undergo an extreme makeover to suffer a plastic surgery complication. The complication doesn’t even have to be visible. Some of the most common problems caused by inexperienced doctors or substandard care during or after a cosmetic procedure include:

  • Nerve damage: Numbness and tingling after surgery could be signs of nerve damage as well as a change in sensitivity or lost nipple sensation after breast augmentation.
  • Hematoma: A pocket of blood that resembles a large bruise is called a hematoma. This is a common complication after a facelift and may require an additional operation to drain the blood.
  • Infection: Operative and postoperative care should be optimized to reduce the risk of infection, but internal infection is a common complication of plastic surgery and can become severe.
  • Scarring: Plastic surgery is supposed to make you look better, but some patients end up with visible scars, some red and thick – and permanent.
  • Organ damage: Liposuction is a harsh procedure that can lead to trauma of the internal organs because of a perforation or puncture. Repairs can require additional surgery while some perforations can be fatal.

Many cosmetic procedures are outpatient or are done at a plastic surgery center and not a hospital. If there is a failure to administer anesthesia properly or a need to resuscitate the patient, lack of experience, staff, and equipment can lead to oxygen deprivation and brain damage.

Sadly, there are plastic surgery attempts that end fatally. Kanye West’s mother, Donda, underwent liposuction, a tummy tuck, and a breast reduction the day before she died. While the surgeries, according to the doctor who performed them, were without complications and the coroner’s office stated “there was no evidence of a surgical procedure problem,” the fact remains that the surgical procedures and her death were very likely linked.
